This paper (which supersedes "Alignment in Manam stress",

previously posted to the archive) gives a strictly parallel

analysis of stress in Manam. The interaction of extrametricality

and clitics is treated using positive and negative alignment

constraints. The special stress patterns found internal to roots

motivate a _constraint domain_, a substring of the representation

in which particular constraints hold; outside the domain (i.e. in

prefixes and suffixes) violations of these constraints are

ignored. The domain replaces the lexical level.
